Hair We Go...

My hair. *sigh* Don't get me started. I miss it so much. I have completed 3 full weeks of the GTF (Genetically Targeted and Fractionated) chemo. Because of the reduced dose, patients don't usually loose all their hair, but MAN am I loosing a lot. People keep saying that they can't tell the difference, but I think they will be able to see the difference soon. I had to get my hair cut again to try and camoflauge a bald spot where my scalp shows too much. It's upsetting. I'm not going to lie. I know it would be worse (probably all gone) with traditional full dose chemo, but for some reason that brings me little comfort as my hair rains down on my shoulders. It is getting EVERYWHERE! Kind of gross and very frustrating. I am determined to make the best of it and be grateful for what I have, but the loosing my hair does make me sad.

It is taking me forever to write this because my stomach is hurting so much right now. I keep stopping. So I'm going to rest now. It is only 9 am and I already need to rest....oh well. I will listen to my body and help it get well. Just one more thing...I hate cancer.

  2. Valerie, I totally get that. My hair is everything to me! I've grown it long and I love it and I can't imagine not having it. I lose a lot of hair anyway since having my 4th kid and every time I take a shower and get handfuls of hair it upsets me. BUT, on the bright side, once the chemo is done, your hair is gonna' grow in fast and thick! Wanna know how I know? I've seen another friend go through this and now my cousin who just completed chemo and already her hair is growing in like crazy! You'll have it back and this will all just be a bad dream.

  6. I totally thought of you today. I was walking into Lucy and met a lady that had the CUTEST short hair cut. She and I started talking. And in a very short time frame I learned she had just survived breast cancer. Her super cute, short hair cut was really just her hair growing back in. This women reminded me a lot of you and your strength. She was amazingly positive and really touched my heart. She "gets" life. Anyways, she made me think of you, your hair and how much you love it. She too had long hair she said. But she looked so beautiful, just like you do. I wanted to let you know that even though it's hard, and you'd rather not HAVE to fight this fight. You have obviously touched SOOOO many people with your positive, radiant, outlook :)
